Immigrant Power Now Campaign

A campaign to make pro-immigrant changes at the municipal level in Minneapolis with a list of ten demands of the city.

Demands and Platform

  1. Implement the Minneapolis Municipal ID program passed in 2018 and make an ID available to all city residents regardless of immigration status. Work with communities to communicate clearly about limitations (not a driver's license) and risks (data would be public).

  2. Allocate ongoing city dollars to be granted to residents to fund DACA applications and renewals.

  3. Increase funding and staffing for the Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs.

  4. Increase funding for legal representation for immigrants who are Minneapolis residents who are detained by ICE.

  5. Support undocumented immigrants to obtain U Visas by ensuring proper reports are filed when residents are victims of a crime.

  6. Allow non-citizens the right to vote in municipal elections that the city has control over.

  7. Stop the Minneapolis Police Department from arresting residents for citable offenses.

  8. Implement a process to consider immigration consequences within charging decisions from the Minneapolis City Attorney.

  9. Increase city resources to support vigorous enforcement of employment and labor laws focused on sectors of the economy with high violations which coincide in great part with industries that have a large number of immigrant workers: low-wage, day labor, and informal sector.

  10. Strengthen tenants rights and protections in Minneapolis; increase penalties on landlords who exclude, exploit or manipulate their tenants based on their immigration status.
